T
he PinLED Display 20001 unites a very long lifetime and reliability for your Data East pinball. It replaces the hard to find original plasma glass tube. If you had tried to change such a plasma glass tube you would know what I mean.... And the PinLED Display is the only one you can find in the world which can replace a defective original plasma glass tube. The original plasma glass tube isn't any longer available. The PinLED Display Set 20001 will help you to keep your Data East machine alive for the next few years. The PinLED Display shows the same different bright- and contrast levels as the original plasma glass tube display. The measurements of the LED Display are 40x320mm. These are almost the same as the original plasma glass tube (the original plasma glass tube is a little bit larger than the PinLED Display but it has the effective luminance area of about 40x322mm).
T
he PinLED Display-Set 20001 is for use in the following Data East machines: Checkpoint, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Batman, Star Trek 25th Anniversary, Hook.
T
he PinLED board is a 4- layer board (similar to a computer motherboard). The PinLED board contains the entire control electronics. The board is made in modern SMD- technique (Surface Mounted Devices). The Z80 CPU and the RAM is located on the front in the lower left hand corner of the board. Directly behind this on the reverse side of the board is the EPROM. These three IC's have sockets so a change is very easy. The board is fully compatible with the control signals of the Data East main computer board. It uses the same connectors as the original Data East boards. No conversion will be necessary. Installation is "plug and play" and takes only five minutes (see installation guide).

On the back of the board you can see the Display Eprom on the right hand side. The Eprom isn't included in the PinLED Display Set 20001. You can use your old one or you can order one separately. |

On this picture you can see the lower left corner of the front side. The Z80 CPU and the RAM are located here. You can also see the LED matrix arrays. These have sockets because many other parts are located under there (resistors, IC's). |

echnical Notes:
The consistent
brilliance of the PinLED Displays make for excellent viewing under all
lighting conditions, even bright daylight.
The display board uses only
the 5 V voltage from the Power Supply Assembly. Power consumption of
the PinLED Display board with all dots on is only 1.2A. This additional
power will be delivered by the Power Supply Assembly without any
problems. The control transistor 2N6057 is designed for 12A, but under
normal conditions this high amount of current will not be used in the
pinball machine (2.5 to 3 A is normal).
A detailed instruction sheet is included for installation.

The PinLED Display 20002 combine long lifetime and reliability for your Dot Matrix Display Pinball. It is the right replacement for the hard to repair original glass tube display. Who ever tried to change a broken glass tube know what I mean... The PinLED Display shows the different brightness steps and contrast levels like the original glass tube display. The measurement of the LED viewing area is 80x320mm. This is the same as the lighting dot area in the original glass tube (the original glass tube is a little bit larger in its dimension, but the viewing area is 80x322mm).

The PinLED Display-Set 20002 is usable in the following pinballs:

The PinLED displays mark themselves with a good brightness. It's comply to the original glass tube display so that you can see what's going on on the display even in bright areas. The PinLED display has its own power supply. This switched power supply deliver the needed +5VDC voltage. The power consumption of the PinLED display in display test with all dots on is approximate 1A. The own power supply is necessary because the Bally/Williams driver boards with their +5V regulator can't drive this additional power load (the regulator is too weak). The PinLED Display is "Plug and Play", so that the installation is very easy. It uses the same mounting wholes like the original glass tube display does. The installation takes about 5 minutes! This isn't a problem even for non electronics
